Pathology
The Department of Pathology is divided into various fields, and results from studies of these fields play a crucial role in determination of the treatment.
- Surgical histopathologic examination : Tissues excised or obtained from endoscopy are visually inspected, and final diagnosis is made from light microscopy. Special chemical staining, immunohistochemical staining, and fluorescent staining are also used together.
- Cytologic examination : Gynecological uterine cancer screening, non-gynecological cytology test, fine needle aspiration tests
- Frozen section examination: It is an examination in which part of the tissue is obtained during surgery and rapidly frozen for inspection and diagnosis. It is done when the surgical margins and treatment has to be determined during the surgery.
- Molecular pathology: Flow cytometry : DNA tests and immunological markers, Tb-PCR : tuberculosis, In situ hybridization : various virus examinations, human papillomavirus genotyping test
- Autopsy: It is an examination that identifies the cause of death and aims to find the factors that caused the death of the patient.
