"Rheumarthritis", derives from the word "rheumatism", referring to ailments of the joints and connective tissue like cartilage, bones, muscles, ligaments, and the like. Rheumarthritis has been recognized since the time of Hippocrates, approximately 2400 years ago. In the ancient Greek period, the word "Rheuma" was used to indicate a flow of fluid triggering disease by the first century AD, it was thought that a substance called Rheuma travelled the body, triggering disease outbreak where it settled. The concept of rheumatism can be traced back to this belief.
Rheumatoid arthritis is well known, and many people regard rheumatism in the same light as rheumatoid arthritis. However, rheumatoid arthritis is merely one type of Rheumarthritis disorder with also includes arthritis, fibromyalgia syndrome, lupus, ankylosing spondylitis, Behcet's disease, gout, Sjogren's syndrome, myositis, systemic sclerosis, and other ailments.
